Enjoy three days off the grid relaxing in the shade of some of the largest redwood trees in the world, soaking in the pond side hot-tub, eating delicious and healthy meals, stretching out each morning with yoga, staying grounded through guided meditations, exploring new ideas in workshops, and finding bliss – tucked away in the beautiful Mendocino hills just two and a half hours from SF. Join us for this serene and insightful Digital Detox retreat at the beautiful Shambhala Ranch in Ukiah, California. The custom-built ranch house filled with large windows, decks, and two cozy fireplaces will become your new home among the lush woodlands of streams and redwoods just a few miles from the Montgomery State Preserve.

Together we’ll explore the physical, psychological, and social benefits of stepping away from our screens while sharing best practices and techniques that help us stay balanced in our always-on, constantly connected, digitally-driven world. We’ll dig into the negative implications and habits caused by our culture of constant connection, discussing ways to bring more balance into our life. As we develop mindful relationships with our screens, we help ourselves create a sustainable foundation for our careers, personal wellness, families and individual happiness.

During the retreat, we create a space that gives you the freedom and permission to truly unplug and decompress…for personal development, creative thinking, liberation, and a space where we can all be simply human. We give our minds the time to think deeply, our bodies the chance to relax, and our natural surrounding the opportunity to engulf us. To make this possible, we have an emergency phone and email that our staff checks while onsite, so if someone back home really needs to get a hold of you, they can reach you. Feeling rejuvenated and truly relaxed after a few days off the grid, we return to daily life with new found energy, inspiration, and a refreshed approach to a balanced life in the digital age. We keep our retreats small, private and intimate – only 10-14 spots available. This is the original Digital Detox retreat.

Digital Detox Retreat will begin promptly on Friday at 4:00pm and concludes on Sunday at 1:00pm.

Digital Detox Program Details

Each morning will begin with tea and fresh fruit, followed by an enlightening session of guided Yoga, Meditation and Asana Breathe work. Enjoy a healthy and mindful breakfast outside overlooking the redwoods and valley, or in the ranch garden. Then unravel with a morning walk or soak in the wine barrel hot tub as your body begins to align with the natural environment. We will take a guided meditative wilderness hike through the Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve, stopping for a sustainable vegetarian lunch-picnic. Art workshops, group discussions, writing prompts, hot tub soaking and baking class will fill the early afternoons, and participants will have ample personal time to read their favorite book along the nearby stream, nap in a hammock, or just enjoy the natural surroundings. Slow dinners will delight the senses, from thai-cambodian fusion cuisine to delicious raw appetizers. Evening activities such as a stargazing, bonfires and journaling will surely open the mind for creative thought. After hours, take a dip in the hot tub at anytime of the night under the starlit sky.

ABOUT SHAMBHALA RANCH: Winding mountain roads, just 20 miles outside of Ukiah bring you to the remote ranch known as Shambhala. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and a variety of flora, one is certain to find peace during their visit. As you cross over the hill and enter through the front gate, you are welcomed to this magnificent custom-built ranch offering a secluded, naturally serene environment. With panoramic views from large windows and wrap-around decks, two fireplaces, hot tub, private pond and nearby hikes through the redwoods, this is a perfect getaway into the beautiful rural valley of Ukiah.

The ranch has vegetable farming, ornamental gardens, fruit tree orchards, farm animals and timber. A private river and pond prove perfect spaces for contemplation and reflection. Water cascades over rocks forming a small waterfall into a clear, sandy-bottom pool that is home to water striders, fish, frogs, and salamanders. Duck families often vacation while floating on the water. Black Phoebes dart out from the Weeping Willow to snatch insects from the air, while a Green Heron fishes along the shore. The pond is also a favorite haunt of river otters that hump their way up from the creek looking something to eat, and then entertain us with their undulations. Dragonflies patrol the pond borders all day in brilliants reds and blues, and frogs sing to us at night while we soak in the nearby hot tub.

Red-tailed Hawks and Golden Eagles drift in wide circles overhead while White-tailed Kites hover and stoop for rodents. Fawns cavort in the grass as their mothers watchfully graze, and Wild Turkey families amble along the edges foraging for food.Young deer have been seen running and froliking on the meadows and domestic animals such as sheep, yaks or horses have grazed. Sensuous, smooth-red-skinned Pacific Madrone trees provide berries in winter for Band-tailed Pigeons and American Robins, while California Bay-laurel leaves and nuts provide food for black-tailed deer, dusky-footed wood rats, and California gray squirrels. Tan Oaks, a favorite acorn tree for the native Pomo Indians, are frequented by Stellar’s Jays, Scrub Jays, and the occasional Acorn Woodpecker – all looking for acorns to store away for the winter. You will be in good company here at Shambhala Ranch.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Private beds and shared large rooms will provide sanctuary among the hills and trees for Digital Detox attendees. Tucked up on the hill overlooking the lilly filled pond and horizon of redwood trees, these modest spaces will set the perfect environment for inspiration and dreaming, deep reflection or relaxation, or simply a good nights rest. As individuals we fill this home, and together we find community. Room placement dependent on date of booking and availability.

YOGA + MEDITATION: Start the mornings off with Yoga and Meditation led by our experienced Digital Detox and Camp Grounded instructors. We will focus on vital breathing, conscious movement, increased balance and the liberation of the spine and mind. Using the tools of Hatha Yoga, Pranayama Breathing, and Asana practice, together we will tap into the peace within and explore the vibrant healthy energy in our lives. Morning classes are geared towards beginners and advanced students alike. We will use a mix of both familiar asanas as well as introduce more challenging poses, with variation and specific focus given to each student and their ability. Since we keep retreats small in size (10-14 students), we are able to truly encourage each student to listen to his/her own unique body; we believe that with the right guidance, the students are really their own best teachers. Our instructors teach for all levels and abilities, with the goal to develop the individual and one’s sense of well-being. Each Hatha Yoga Session will include a synergetic mix of the five traditional elements: 1) Pranayama Yoga Breathing: exercises for vitality, 2) Yoga Asana: anatomically aligned posture and structurally balanced, 3) Relaxation: how to deal effectively with stress, 4) Yoga Meditation: non-religious, 5) Yoga philosophy: positive, uplifting and life affirming. Just after a few days, you will be comfortable with a basic yoga routine to incorporate into your daily life.

HEALTHY MEALS + JUICE BAR: From light breakfast buffet with a granola-nut-fruit combo and super green juice, to a thai fusion style lunch, raw veggie style sushi and delicious root soups or gluten free wraps- be prepared to feel as fresh as the local produce we use. All meals are vegan and vegetarian friendly, healthy, seasonal and prepared with local fruits and veggies. Our team of chefs tantalizes the taste buds with their incredible Ayurvedic influenced treats (bindy bars and bliss chocolate truffles) and literally surprises guests with her stunning entrees that blow away even the heaviest meat eaters. Since this is in fact a detox (of the mind, body and soul), there will not be any alcohol served at Shambhala Ranch. However, we will make sure you have a morning cup of fresh juice and evening mug of tea to cool the body after time spent soaking in the hot tub.

MONTGOMERY WOODS STATE NATURAL PARK RESERVE: Montgomery Woods is one of the more remote of California’s redwood parks. It is an excellent example of both a magnificent coastal redwood grove and a beautiful fern forest.  The reserve started with a nine-acre donation by Robert Orr in 1945, and has been enlarged to 1,142 acres by purchases and donations from the Save the Redwoods League. The coastal redwood favors moderate temperature with lots of moisture. Redwoods fare especially well in areas of heavy fog, where the soil rarely dries completely.  The coastal redwood is the tallest tree on earth, measuring up to 370 feet in height. The coast redwood grows best on river flats and stream junctions, where they receive a rich supply of alluvial soil, or silt, deposited there by flood waters. Have a breathtaking experience walking the 3 mile trail through old growth redwoods that have never been logged.
